With only three of their big men from 1992/93 under contract for next season, the Trailblazers were looking to add some big man depth with the 24th pick in the 1993 draft. Power forward Clifford Robinson and centers Charles Shackleford and Granville Waiters will play most of the minutes at power forward and center, and the Blazers do hope to retain both Buck Williams and John Salley, but youth and depth up front were considered to be the priority with the team's only draft pick. With that in mind, the franchise has selected a product of local Oregon State in 6-11 Scott Haskin. While there are certainly question marks around Haskin's ability to impact at the pro level, his ability on the boards and as a shotblocker and defender caught the team's eye.

This is a very good pick. Excellent defender. No contribution on offense, but at this point of the draft, this is great value.

He has some big issues related to durability, though, so it makes sense that teams decided to not pick him earlier.
