Lakers Press On Without 2 Of Their Top Scorers
Ty Lawson will go uniformless for a while
Even as the Los Angeles Lakers were routing the Indiana Pacers on the road, 123-98, for their fifth straight win, star point guard Ty Lawson was clearly hurting. Injured in the previous game against the Toronto Raptors (a 110-106 comeback victory at the Staples Center) with a bruised sternum, Lawson is said to be day-to-day for the next two and a half weeks, leaving the Purple and Gold without two of their top shot creators (power forward Chris Bosh is still recovering from a broken ankle and just recently started doing some basic exercises for the first time in a month). On top of that, Richard Hamilton is dealing with a calf injury that will keep him at less than 100% for the next few games.
"No doubt we've been hit hard by injuries this year," head coach Rudy Tomjanovich said. "It's unfortunate, particularly since it's happening right when we're finally coming together as a team and playing the way we're capable of. But we have faith in guys like Eric Maynor and Allen Iverson to step up and contribute in the wake of Ty's injury, just like Kendrick Perkins and Ronny Turiaf helped cover for the Dinosaur."
The Lakers continue their road trip over the next couple of games, traveling to to Philadelphia and Washington D.C. to take on the 76ers and Wizards, hoping their 10-6 record doesn't fall apart as they pursue the Golden State Warriors for the Pacific lead.
