Boston eliminated much of the drama early with a 27-19 first quarter lead that they never relinquished despite small chippings away by New Orleans in the second and third quarter to have the Pelicans down just 5 heading into the final quarter of play, it was all Celtics in the fourth with a 34-26 margin that saw the East champions take a commanding 3-1 series lead.
Tyson Chandler was the most efficient Celtic on the floor
Although the Player of the Game award went to Lebron James for his 20 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal, it came via another rough shooting night - 5 of 17, as Shane Battier actually outplayed the likely MVP with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal on 7/12, 3/5 from 3 point land. Instead, the most accurate player on the night in green was Tyson Chandler who put up 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks in 27 minutes on 50% shooting. Even Jarrett Jack's 18 points, 5 assists, 2 steals and 0 turnovers on 5/12 was a better usage of shot selection, particularly since Jack and James both took 9 trips to the charity stripe. Also, all five Boston starters scored 12+ points
And indeed, that's where the Celtics once again won the game, getting 38 FTA to New Orleans' 17, a repeat of Game 1. The Pelicans didn't help themselves by committing 23 turnovers to the Celtics' 17. Mike Conley finally had an efficient shooting night this Finals, but 9 of 15 for 20 points does no good when you're a point guard who commits 6 turnovers, and Samuel Dalembert added to the woes with 7 giveaways of his own.
If the Pelicans can survive Game 5, they'll get to go back to New Orleans for Games 6 and 7, but the birds may well have their wings clipped.
