Unfinished Business
Charlotte, NC
The Charlotte Hornets, who sported a veteran heavy team at the start of the season in Jason Kidd, Kobe Bryant, Danny Granger, Dirk Nowitzki, Andrew Bogut, Devin Harris, Vince Carter, and Nick Collison...Had their post season ended against the eventual champs, LeBron James and the Boston Celtics. After taking care of the Atlanta Hawks in 7 games in Atlanta, the series win was credited mostly due to the team's captain, Kobe Bryant.
Kobe Bryant was the most consistent player all season long for the Charlotte Bobcats.

"I know that Kobe is our best player, that our offense starts with him as does our defense. He was the heart and soul of this team. That's why, when we were matched up with the Atlanta Hawks in the post season, I wanted him guarded Carmelo Anthony. If we lost, it wasn't going to be because Anthony had his way." Coach [Brian] Winters said.
The Hornets started Jason Kidd at the beginning of the season, before giving Devin Harris the eventual spot in the line up...well, it went back and forth between the two point guards. The Hornets were doing great...and the injury bug hit. Center Andrew Bogut went down for 2 months. That didn't stop the Hornets as Nick Collison came in and filled in the lane nicely with his great defense. As the trade deadline was approaching, Philadelphia General Manager, willyjakkz, called up the Hornets and made an offer. And within a day, the deal was done.
Scoring forward, Danny Granger, was sent from Charlotte to Philadelphia, in exchange for defensive bigs Andrei Kirilenko and Marcus Camby. "We did the deal to move Collison back to his natural position of PF off the bench and to have Camby backing up Bogut. But in the mean time with Bogut out, Camby got the start." the GM stated. "We felt we could part with a bit of scoring for a bit of defense since we had Kobe and Dirk to score for us, with a little help from Devin." he finished.
Unfortunately, 2 weeks before Andrew Bogut was scheduled to come back from injury, the Hornets lost their scoring big in Dirk Nowitzki...for the season. This led to [Marcus] Camby and [Andrew] Bogut both starting...which wasn't working out as planned...And in came [Nick] Collison to regain a starting spot. "Oh man, he was huge for us. Very key player this year. He knows his role on the team and doesn't complain ever about not getting touches. He does the dirty work, the things that don't show up on stat sheets...We would have lost to the Hawks if it wasn't for his defense in the paint" Bryant said in an interview.
When he was asked how he felt the season went, "Well, we lost Andrew for half the season, lost Dirk for the second half of the season and the playoffs...I had to step my game up and try to carry this team...especially against LeBron James. Whew, he torched us. Overall, I'm disappointed with our season. I feel if we were healthy the entire year, we could have given Boston a real run for their money. I expect bigger and better things for our team next season." Bryant said.
We here in Charlotte, are very eager and excited to see what the Hornets can accomplish next season.
