Fresh New Start For Memphis Grizzlies October 31, 2012
The Memphis Grizzlies kicked off their fresh new start with big men Derrick Favors and Marc Gasol auto-picked in the first two rounds.
Now, it looks like the new-look franchise has finally found a man to head the team with newly announced General Manager Parka. While perhaps not as experienced as other candidates, Parka holds two championships and two Finals appearances in his five-year GM career.
"I'm glad I was considered, then ultimately picked to manage this team," said Parka. "It's definitely an exciting and fresh new start for a franchise that hasn't been able to quite put it together in the past."
Parka quickly went to work, selecting rookie Harrison Barnes in the third round.
"We love what Barnes brings to the table," said Parka. "He's a very young and talented player, and we see him fitting very nicely long-term with the two big men we already had."
Parka has always been known to field competitive teams composed of young cores and strong, veteran supporting casts, meaning that their next few picks will likely be players that still have room to grow or fit with the team long-term.
"It's really going to depend on who's available at this point, but we'll see," said Parka. "I like our core moving forward, and we're going to have to make smart choices in the next few rounds to solidify our team."

Going to be interesting seeing what PG you end up with. Well's starting to run awfully dry.

Indeed. Even if we have a good PG available on the next pick though, we'll probably go with best upside/value available or something along those lines.

Holy front court! If Gasol was a few years younger a rebuild might make more sense but with him being in his prime I guess a trade is coming. I predict Favors/Barnes will be the core moving forward.

Possibly. We'll see when the draft is over. I wouldn't mind fielding a young team with some vets mixed in and try to make a playoff run. It'll really depend on how strong the conference ends up and what trade opportunities I find myself with. As for now, I'm gonna try to get as much value and flexibility as I can. I won't totally disregard fit though.

Looks like we have some talented youth here in the Southwest.

Banking on replicating the CSL success with Thomas I see.

Banking on replicating the CSL success with Thomas I see. Haha indeed. One of the more underrated young PGs I feel.

Nice young team. Could see Marc being traded before the trade deadline, if you can get a younger center for him Love the combination of Barnes, Favors and Thomas. There's some bright future ahead for the Grizzlies.

Pekovic is going to be a UFA, so it's a calculated gamble there, of course.... and that's also why he dropped as far as he did.

There wasn't any prospect I was super fond of left anymore, so decided to go with what I felt was BPA/BVA. At least it gives me wiggle room to trade Marc as well. We're gonna need an SG in the next round probably.

Lamb, Moultrie Taken Through 7th Round October 31, 2012
The Memphis Grizzlies continued their youth movement after picking up Nikola Pekovic, taking two rookies in the lanky scorer Jeremy Lamb and versatile big man Arnett Moultrie.
"We had our eyes set on a couple of veterans," said Grizzlies GM Parka. "But at that point, we went with the two rookies."
Lamb, the 20-year-old shooting guard, fills a need at the 2-guard position for the team. Known for his high efficiency and scoring ability, Lamb will likely fill the sixth man role for the Grizzlies down the line.
Moultrie, on the other other hand, shows a diverse skillset as a big man with the ability to shoot the mid-range jumper, which should add some versatility to the frontline.
"It's all about finding long-term pieces and guys who fit the roles we need at this point," said Parka. "we passed on some talent, and we're gonna have a lot of roster fixing to do after the draft to field a good team for the season, but right now, that's the strategy."
