(Feel free to revoke if required Manu...but I was ready to select when clock expired 4 hours back..don't wanna hold up my clock time anymore)
Spurs coming into ’92 draft with 5 picks, including the #10 & #14. Hopes to sell the farm and move up to #2 were not going to happen, so analysis on what the Spurs have now, what will be dangled in expansion, and what type of cap money is desired to have free in the ‘Star-Rich’ FA pool, made them look at a certain set of rookies that could fit into the system hopefully long term.
When all was said and done, we decided among what we feel is a safe, can’t miss pick for the skill set desired.
With the 10th overall pick, San Antonio selects:
P.J.Brown - Louisiana Tech
Brown is something Spurs haven’t had for a while, probably since Buck Williams left, with a little extra mean-ness! A hard nosed Power Forward that will make anyone who drives the paint remember the experience. He will mix it up well, and I believe can defend 5, 4, and 3 positions. He won’t block much, won’t steal much, won’t score much, won’t pass much. But he will rebound, and he will defend!
Brown is another prototypical player in the GAH like Rodman, Oakley, T. Hill, A. & D. Davis, Cage, and aforementioned Buck. We don’t have this type of player, and without a big name FA landing, he will compete on the court with Terry Mills for the minutes at 4. (If Mills stays) Plus Brown is a very good FT shooter! We haven’t had one of those ever in our front court!
Another pick in 4 slots has them looking for another ‘fill’ guy, at 2 or 3 or 5. Hopefully something works out there as well.
