The San Diego Clippers enter the draft after a disappointing season. Moving forward, they have some real strengths. The backcourt duo of Mark Price and Rex Chapman was offensively one of the best in the league. Duane Causwell was a premium performer in the post, and Otis Thorpe was solid as well. But however many points the Clippers made on offense, they let the other team do better. Price and Chapman were sieves on defense, with Causwell the only true defensive standout on the team. The Clippers knew they were going into the draft looking for defense. With that in mind, the Clippers have chosen to go with a position which is not a need, but to fill a need at that position. With the 7th pick, the San Diego Clippers choose ... Doug Christie from Pepperdine University. While the Clippers are high on Rex Chapman at the 2, they recognize the need for hard nosed defense in the backcourt. Christie will give them just that, being an excellent man on man defender and a premium ball thief. While his offense is adequate, it won't tear up the professional league. But with Chapman dropping 20 a game and Price a scorer as well, Christie should work well in the rotation.

I really like this pick for the Clippers. With Christie and Owens the team has two versatile players who can be moved around in matchups.

Hope it works out, Clippers are in an odd spot with having two stars in the backcourt who are having trouble on defense. But I actually like the whole starting lineup, despite how poor they did, so hopefully a few moves like this to add to the rotation will make things click.

I quickly go through work ethics and either only look at the future or only look at the current, depending on their work ethic. So I guess I was happy with his current!

Defense and a 3-pt shot. Not sure where this places Chapman.....as others stated...the lack of defense with him and Price almost warrant Christie to start out of the gate.
