With Manu unavailable for the next week and a bit of time temporarily opened up in my schedule, I'm going to be handling the scouting this year. With a lot of new faces, I thought it might be good to do something a little more involved than past years and try to generate some off-season activity around here.
I've broken down the scouting info provided by Manu into several different categories:
Player Details - Basic stuff like position, height, etc
Preferences - The player's preferred shot distribution
Shooting - An A-F rating for each shot type
Category A Skills - A-F ratings for Handling, Rebounding (Off & Def), Stealing and Blocking
Category B Skills - A-F ratings for Scoring, Passing, Draw Foul, Defender, Discipline, BBallIQ
Interview - A-F ratings for Greed, Loyalty, Play For Winner, Playing Time, Personality, Popularity
Medical - A-F ratings for Durability, Consistency, Work Ethic
Potentials - A-F ratings for Potential in all categories
Player Details, Preferences, Shooting and Category A Skills will be available for all players for all GMs. Scouting will then proceed as follows:
1. First Workouts Phase - GMs can invite 10 players to work out with their team (16 players for GMs with a caretaker position). Category B Skills are revealed for those players.
2. Second Workouts Phase - A further 10 (or 16) workouts are available. Players who are invited for a 2nd workout will reveal their Potentials.
3. First Interview Phase - GMs can invite 5 players (8 if also caretaker) for an interview where those categories will be revealed.
4. Second Interview Phase - A further 5 (or 8) interviews are available. Player who have already been interviewed once are given a Medical.
5. Scoop Phase - In this phase I will give out some additional scouting information to GMs according to their activity over the next week. Mock drafts, articles and discussion about the draft and the GAH in general is encouraged and will be rewarded.
To make this easier on myself, we're going to use Google Sheets. I'm going to ask everyone to make a copy (file menu) of this sheet: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YGRypyF97Rv4GudfXTyr7XALiA2VQt5nX0ierKalNRg/edit#gid=0
Rename your sheet to reflect your team(s), e.g. Nets Scouting or LakersHeat Scouting. Make sure your spreadsheet is set to private, share it with me (wallis.t74) and don't share your link with any other GMs. This is where I will send your scouting results. Once you've copied the spreadsheet, renamed it and shared it with me, PM me with the link to your sheet. Once I've confirmed that I can view it, you can go ahead and indicate which players you would like to invite to the first round of workouts by placing a 1 in column W on the appropriate row. Cell W1 will keep track of how many players you've invited.
Fire away with any questions or concerns.
