With the first overall pick in the 1996 GAH draft, the Houston Rockets select guard Jason Kidd from California. At 6'4" and 205 lbs, Kidd has great size for the position. His game understanding is better than most veterans, and his playmaking skills are elite. Not only that, but he is a lockdown defender on and off the ball. Add to that great rebounding instincts and you pretty much have the full package. The only downside may be his shot, but he can hit some threes when open. Kidd will join reigning rookie of the year Sam Cassell in Houston. The Rockets will have a promising backcourt with two young players who can complement each other quite well.

Yeah I thought he was the 1st PG in this draft. Never was a great shooter...but ball handling and defense goes a long way.

Nice pick for rockets, but it would have been good if it was based on team needs nd pick big dog, that team needs a scoring wingman & with the reigning roy already in town, jkidd just duplicated that pos, i wonder who will get benchd first
