Feel free to join this with your comments about what you think the switch has meant for the league.
Some of my early thoughts:
1. It seems the engine is more offense friendly ... see the Washington Bullets, from the bottom of the standings last year to a league-leading record (8-1). Sure they have added Steve Nash, but still.
2. It seems the engine does a better job managing injuries.
3. Due to the conversion there are less drives per game ... that could affect specially teams who had "ball-hawking" backcourts.
4. A very small sample size to judge properly, but I have the impression that size plays a bigger role now. Things that lead me to believe that: Hawks undersized backcourt struggling, Danny Manning dominating at small forward, Shawn Bradley locking down opponents ...
Again, it's still very early to draw any conclusions, but thought it would be interesting to discuss about it.

As far as defensive big men....Cleveland just faced Denver...whom always hammers opponents with foul trouble....did so again....but Greg Ostertag...in only 17 minutes, had 11 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 blocks! So he definitely was key to Cavs winning versus Nuggets. Maybe there will be a increase in trade value for the big defender/blocker/rebounder this season! Just wonder if the game engine didn't trade Glen Rice from Bullets....would they be EVEN BETTER then their start shows? ljw SAS

There is a lot of depth in this version, at least apparently ... there are many potential combinations on offense, for example.

I'm mising a little how the teams played before the switch. Seeing the Lakers roster and what ratings the players have, we play like I would expected us to. But this missing dominant big man could backfire on us.

But this missing dominant big man could backfire on us. You had Sikma/Ruland tandem for years......which wasn't dominant but handled the paint defensively and rebounded, to let the guards be the primary weapons. They also had Bird and Walter Davis swing through for wing offense. That being said...the Lakers have made the playoffs the last 15 yrs straight...had best record in the West five times...made the finals five times...including four of the past five years. All that said...they have never won the title...but them along with Denver has been the dominant teams' of the West n GAH. ljw SAS

Nice little history tour, thanks man. That is a impressive streak for the Lakers, even if it is also quite a choke job with loosing 4 times in the finals. But it seems the east really had/has some good team's going. With that in mind I may tend to play the Lakers team as is and just see how far it goes. But the rebuild is on the horizon, this team is ancient already.

Would help new GM's understand their teams culture. Let me know if you would be interested

Great idea, Chris ... I have wanted to write the GAH history for a long time but never had the time.

charlotte looking like a dominate team so far It looks like the new engine is doing wonders for Kemp. He's taken a big step this season. It's New Jersey South over there with him and Dikembe.

After 1996 ends....some crazy parity!
Central division in the eastern conference..EVERY TEAM IS OVER .500! If season ended, Hawks at .514 miss the playoffs, as wells as Miami and Philly who are at .500
Sacramento appears to be the best of the West..but they should given the roster and depth they have! Jazz..if hey could stay healthy, might be 2nd best in West.
Surprise of the East is the Hornets and Bullets...perennial lottery teams. Disappointing teams' to me ...I thought the Sonics were going to be the team to beat. Cummings and Humphris haven't played one game though....thought the depth was the key to that team. But the West is wide open still.

Next sim we will have the first ratings update using this version of the game. I'm curious to see how players develop.
As for the Hornets, good to see them doing well. I think they were underperforming until now. That trio of Kemp, Mutombo and Brandon is elite.
I will comment more when I have the time.

Yes, this ratings bump is key to the Nets. Who knows how the new engine treats it, but if we don't see some big defensive improvements in a couple of guys, we're going to have to start over.

Just checked the ratings bumps for Hurley, Miner and Reeves. All of them had some significant movement and retained their potential, so seems like good news. Hurley and Reeves went up 5 points in defense, and Miner went up 7. It will be a painful year, but by the end hopefully these guys are real contributors.

Only Cvetkovic made a good jump in offense + passing. The rest of the team stays put. No wonder if you see the age of all this guys. After this season it is really time for some fresh blood around here.
