Dear all,
We have just finished our 21st season. It has been a very long time since Tim Moungey (Jestor) and I started this adventure. For the most part it has been a great ride, with our ups and downs, like most other leagues. We managed to keep going when Jestor left, thanks to Tim (ranger) stepping up as co-Commissioner. We have seen some really great stories develop, a lot of great players and franchises ... yet Walter Davis retired without a title, becoming the best ever GAH player without a ring. From the first ring won by the 76ers to this last Bulls milestone winning a ring without their best player, going through the "Westphal wars", the George Gervin free agency decision to leave San Antonio to pair with Marques Johnson and win a ring with the Cavaliers, the incredible longevity of the Nuggets as a powerhouse or the twin towers era in Indiana and many other great stories, this has been such a great experience. But the most pleasant story for me it has been the good harmony always between all members of this league. I think that is the thing that has always been unique to the GAH, and that is thanks to all past and present GM's. So, in that regard, thanks to all of you.
As you know, we have been losing GM's over the last few seasons. We also had a larger number of GM's without the game, which increased the amount of work. Lon has been of great help here, always willing to help those without the game. I thought that switching to a more recent engine would solve those two issues, but it has not been the case. We are currently 10 GM's for a league with 27 franchises. The numbers speak for themselves. It is difficult to keep the competitive level this way, because the AI does not do a great job running franchises nor setting DC's, etc ... In addition, my availability in terms of time has been reduced over the last few months.
Given the situation, I was considering whether it was worth the effort to keep the league going or take a break. I think that, to be fair, this is a debate we all should participate in. My proposal would be to continue but we would have to run at a slower pace. Probably simming just three days a week with offseasons being longer than usual. So it would be great if all of you could participate in this debate. Feel free to give any ideas you consider worth evaluating.
