With the 8th pick in the of the 1997 NBA draft the New York Knicks select... Rasheed Wallace. Rasheed Wallace is a 6'10 power forward out of University of North Carolina. He lists the Tar Heels coach Dean Smith as one of his most influential mentors. Wallace is a tough defender and those skills should translate immediately to the NBA. Derrick Coleman starts at the 4 for the Knicks and they'll be hoping he can mentor the young bruiser into one of the leagues top power forwards as the veteran enters his twilight years. The Knicks were expected to take Adrian Griffin but they also have youngster Sherrell Ford so the organisation looks to be keeping the faith with him and adding a strong rotation for Coleman as they will be looking to manage the veterans more efficiently.

Scores and defends and has shooting range ... would need a good rebounder next to him, though.
