Dear GMs,
First of all, I hope all of you are ok. October and November have been difficult months for me, hence why simming has been so inconsistent, and I apologize for that. Everything now is slowly getting back to normal. There may still be some inconsistencies here and there but we should be back to a consistent simming schedule by next week or the following one at the latest.
After the last check-in we are currently 10 active GMs in a 27-team league. I will contact those who have not checked in, but realistically, only two of those were really active before the October break. My guess is that we will be 12 GMs at max. So we have different options, which are open to debate:
1. Continue as now and place all non-GM teams on CPU control. 2. Each GM manages two teams, one per conference. 3. We close the league.
I would like to hear your ideas on what to do next.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Manu.

Hey Manu,
I don't have a preference per say, but I guess CPU teams could work for the interim. If you want to keep the league going, then I say we keep it going. If the effort isn't worth it though, then we can always look for something else in the future.

Spurs vote option 2.
I would think/hope GMs that are happy to have such a league with the old NBA superstars of that era(like myself)....and have participated in logging in and managing a roster......would possibly be willing to spend a little bit more time to manage a second team from the alternate conf?
Anyhow..thats my vote. We are right around the corner from Garnett and AI drafted, and soon to be: McGrady, Nowitzski, Black Mamba, Vince, Paul Pierce, etc!!!!
That to me is exciting enough to manage a secondary team and get hands on one of the (now) legends

I appreciate your honesty Manu and real life can often be a pain for sim leagues. Honestly I have not had much focus on this league for months and I do not have an appetite to pick up another team again. I think as others have echoed it may be time to close the league and who knows maybe come back to it in the future.

I would say we should set a target, perhaps having at least 14 GMs (more than 50%) with the other teams run by GMs from the other conference. If we can't get that many, I think it will start to be cumbersome and hard to do something like free agency or the draft with any sort of realism and balance. I would love to continue, but if it's only really a handful of GMs involved in each stage (when you consider half the active GMs are competing and half may be in a rebuild, so only half are really in the playoffs, only half are involved in the draft, etc.) it would not seem worth the effort to me at that point.

I'm open to anything. Being an admin for a league is a lot of work and you are the only one in this league compared to us having two in the CSL so it really comes down to you in the end Manu. I would be part of this league and take on two teams if it would help the league continue, but you have to be willing and committed to still putting the time in to keep it running. If you could find a way to get some help to alleviate everything falling on you, that might be a good idea if you do decide to continue.

I echo the thoughts of most other GMs here. It's really your call Manu. Do you want to put the time and effort into running a league that isn't at full capacity. I am being transparent when I say I'm not a big fan of owners running two teams just because there can always be a little bit of a bias when it comes draft day or FA. Not accusing anyone here of anything by any stretch of the imagination but it's just part of the potential risk out there. It's a lot of work running a league, I failed at it quick when I tried so if you continue, you have my support no matter what. If you choose to shut it down, I 100% understand that as well.

Tough call here, I'm open as well for options 1 and 2. If we run it with CPU GM's we may look into easier options to trade with them, more activity could be the way to attract more GM's. But it will be more work in the end, to check if this trades are fair or not. Managing 2 teams has his downsides too, but I would prefer that a bit over option 1.
Option #3 indeed comes down if you have still fun to put in this much work into the league.

Thanks for all the answers.
We are currently 14 confirmed GMs for next season (either per thread or PM) and waiting on Tim's answer we could be 15. That means 12 open teams.
Given the situation, we will try to continue allowing GMs, if they want, to GM a team from the other conference. This is not an obligation, but will help to run a realistic league. We will implement some restrictions, but the first one is obvious: trades cannot happen involving two teams from the same GM.
Also, this second team will be temporary: if a new GM joins, he could choose any of those "second" teams. Think of it as a caretaker mode.

Well, the deadline to send scouting requests was yesterday. Only seven GMs sent scouting requests. I don't know if the rest feels comfortable with the basic scouting or they are just inactive. I guess the true test will come with the draft and how it advances. However, I think we can all agree and understand that running a 27-team league with so few active GMs is not possible.
Draft will start on Tuesday. Let's see how it goes.

It definitely hurts things to have so few active. I'd love to make a big move in the draft, but there's only so many teams run by a GM, and only so many of them are active!

Yeah, I'm shopping #4 to move up, move down, move out. I've sent out a few PMs but no responses. Not much involvement right now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's just due to being the New Year.

I know by rule we typically do not email out all owners frequently........but should we maybe have a few emails go out to remind people that might not checkin regular given the playoffs run...and hopefully get them reminded to be looking again each day during off-season time?

Not sure if something is wrong with the site but I just checked and saw I got 3 messages related to trades yet the Messages button didn't show there was something new there. Apologies to all who I missed but neither phone nor web showed new messages for me hence did not check

Lon: yes, I'll send an e-mail.
Andrei: no idea, I see a number on the upper part of the Messages bar with the number of new messages I have when I log in.

Also, three new "things":
1. Trading with CPU teams will be allowed after the draft. I'll post how to proceed when the moment comes.
2. Salary cap will be increased. This is something Chris suggested some time ago and makes sense since using in-game Free Agency forces us to use the in-game salaries.
3. I'll post on WS boards to see if we can get some new GMs.

I want to start this post by thanking all of you, who have been part of this league, for the great moments we have had. Special thanks to those of you who have been active GMs in the last months.
However, despite league check-ins and answers to PMs, the reality is that we are only seven active GMs in the league, as the draft and free agency have shown. It is not possible to have a minimally balanced league with so few active GMs. Therefore, I'm afraid we cannot continue. I have been thinking about this for the last two weeks and it's not an easy decision to make, but with about a third of the teams on CPU mode (or absent GMs) the outcome of the season will not be fair.
Those of you who are interested in sim leagues may check the CSL (http://championsimleague.com). It's a very different league to the GAH, more media driven, but it's well run with two of our GMs as commissioners there: Jon (emplep7) and Andre (flaminghomer).
Maybe in the future there is another chance for the GAH, who knows. If so, I will contact you. It has been a great journey from the 1976-77 season until now, but the last few seasons have been tough as the number of GMs has been decreasing.
Take care,
Manu.

I thought the same given teams with cap space galore and not one attempt to participate in FA makes the league not worth continuing. It's not responsibility of Commish to fill so many rosters and maintain over half the teams rosters and strategies. Maybe league will resurface in the future. Take care! Ljw SAS
