The Orlando Magic and the Golden State Warriors agreed minutes ago on a deal which will see Ed Davis join the Oakland based franchise. In exchange, the Magic are acquiring center Brian Zoubek, the Warriors first round pick in this summer's draft and two second round picks (both from Golden State in 2013 and 2014).
Davis will help the Warriors on the boards.
Davis, 24, is averaging 4.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.4 blocks and 0.3 steals in 18.6 minutes per contest. The power forward is shooting a dismal 42.8 % from the field and 53.6 % from the free throw line, but the Warriors believe there is room for improvement.
"We think Ed will become a very good player in this league. He's still young and has to improve, but he's a very interesting player. At 6'10" and 227 lbs he's quick and athletic, and while he struggles a bit on the defensive end, he can become a better defender with hard work. He has a natural instinct on the boards, so that will strengthen our team there. There will be an adjustment time, of course, but I think this trade makes our team better mid to long term. We also wish Brian the best, and maybe he can have in Orlando the chance he didn't have with us", reported head coach Mark Jackson.
There is no timetable on when all the paperwork will be finished, so Warriors fans may still have to wait some time before watching Davis play at Oakland. The Warriors frontcourt seems now a bit crowded with Davis joining Spencer Hawes, Taj Gibson, Udonis Haslem, Marreese Speights and Rick Jackson, all of whom will be competing for minutes in the painted area.
