It is clear that Atlanta from returning to a more traditional basketball format (point guard who passes, small forward who scores, bigs and centers to get the ball down low).
Obviously this year’s only “sure thing” is the most exciting pick. Anthony, who won scoring title last year, has few weaknesses in his game, but we found a scorer like Wilkins
When the Atlanta Hawks acquired Carmelo Anthony, many Hawks fans believed they finally have the star player the franchise had been lacking. The praise and criticism for Anthony proliferate in a way that appears to divide fans like no other player in the league.
Anthony's haters make some fair points when mentioning his propensity to look for his own shot over valuing ball movement; his lack of trust in his own teammates; and as his usual unwillingness to become as great a star defensively as he is offensively.
Trusting in this opinions, the following movements of the Hawks have been strengthened frontcourt positions with Anderson Varejao and Nene Hilario, two brazilian players.
Nene will add a strong scoring threat. He'll also provide a strong presence on the boards and open up options for the team at the forward positions, his shot selection and field percentage ( 56 % career ) is exceptional. In defense, his greatest strength is defending the low post, where he uses all his physical and athletic ability to be a real wall but he commits a lot of fouls (in NSL league)
Varejao is another option for the Hawks in the middle. He's a center, but will likely spend most of his time at power forward in Atlanta. Perhaps, the best offensive rebounder in the NAH, very important thing if Anthony's field goal percent is bad. Another great defender in the pain, we expect low level of PA/SF and a lot of Turnovers forced.
