As the dispersal draft rolls on, we wanted to take the time to introduce you to your San Antonio Spurs for the first ever season in the Neon Age Hoops league.
With the 1st pick in the 1st round, the Spurs may have shocked some folks but...
It wasn't quite Valentine's Day but Spurs fans were happy to land AD.
For a team like San Antonio who has had the likes of David Robinson and Tim Duncan to play in the post, the fans were thrilled when the Spurs took another defensive minded player to control the post. That player is none other than the 19 year old youngster, Anthony Davis out of Kentucky. While his game may be raw on the offensive end of the floor, mostly scoring on dunks and put backs, he was chosen as the #1 overall pick because of the defense he can bring to San Antonio. The Spurs fans are a patient bunch and they realize what they are getting in Anthony Davis. A defensive work horse who will help the team move forward with a defensive minded game plan.
With the 60th pick in the dispersal draft, the San Antonio Spurs went with...
The Spurs stayed defensive with the selection of John Henson
Young and defensive seems to be the trend here in the draft. First it was the 19 year old Anthony Davis and now with their second selection the Spurs go with 21 year old John Henson. The Spurs are looking to Henson to play more at the 4 and slide Davis over to the center position. One thing is for sure, the duo should help the Spurs in creating a tough interior for teams to score against.
With the first pick in the third round of the draft, the Spurs selected...
Please Chandler don't keep telling AD to pluck his eyebrow...
The Spurs selected Chandler Parsons to play the three spot. The Spurs are looking to Parsons to be a bigger part of their offense then what he accomplished in one year in Houston. The Spurs also like that Parsons has really good handles for a SF, something they are looking for in their starting 3 in this first season.
Finally up again with selection 120, the San Antonio Spurs took...
Ummm, ok…now we are doing goggles with our hands?
The Spurs were thrilled to land Wesley Matthews with their 120th selection in the dispersal draft. Matthews is a great three point gunner who may very well lead the Spurs in scoring in their first season as part of the NAH. He also brings solid defense to the table to go along with his outside touch.
With pick number 121, the Spurs finally filled out their starting 5 with...
Darren Collison will be running the point for the Spurs.
As hard as it was to swallow, the Spurs took in state rival Dallas Mavericks PG Darren Collison. The Spurs are concerned about the handles on their new point guard but at this point in the draft, the available point guards did not rate out very highly. With an emphasis on interior defense for the Spurs, some areas are sure to suffer and this will be one of them.
Pick 180 seems to have taken forever to get here and the Spurs go with...
Can Anthony Morrow be a spark off the bench?
The Spurs are looking to Anthony Morrow to provide the second unit with a scoring punch as he comes off the bench. He will start off the season as the backup to Matthews and the Spurs hope he can shoot the ball well enough to see plenty of minutes.
Pick 181 for the Spurs and they are going defense again...
Yes, Greg, we also are praying you don't get hurt this season.
The Spurs took Greg Oden to add more defense on the interior. They now seem to have a solid trio of post defenders which should rank up there amongst the best in the NAH in their first season. If Oden can find a way to stay healthy and on the court for the Spurs this could be a solid 7th overall pick for the team.
More to come as selections continue.
