The Celtics are set and ready to roll for the 1991 free agent class. After an up and down season which surprised everyone but themselves, the Celtics found themselves being knocked out in the first round of the playoffs. It is still left to wonder just how far the Celtics could have gone if they were completely healthy. As has been the case the past couple of seasons, the Celtics would go through much of the season avoiding any major injuries to have that undone with not one but two major injuries during the final two months which coincidentally saw their late season collapse. The Celtics were dealt a huge blow to their playoff hopes when both of their front court starters would go down with broken bones and broken dreams.
With the loss of star pf Cliff Robinson and defensive anchor Sam Bowie, the Celtics were unable to match up with some of the other top teams in the East and so their slide began as the top team in the division and a top 3 playoff seed to the 6th seed and loss of home court.
How the Celtics plan to improve upon last years roster is yet to be seen. Almost their entire team outside of ROY candidate Loy Vaught and All-Star PF Cliff Robinson are set to hit free agency. The goals for the upcoming free agency are clear. Most importantly is to bring back John Stockton and Sam Bowie to continue their core players moving forward. From there the Celtics would love to land another superstar to pair alongside Stockton and the underpaid and under appreciated Robinson. After retaining Stockton and Bowie the Celtics will still have the ability to add a max level free agent which if successful would enable them to have one of the top starting lineups in the league.
Previous free agent periods have been anything but kind to the Celtics which they hope to change this year.
If all goes to plan, it just may be the Celtics once again holding the golden trophy at seasons end.

"Obviously, the injury loss played a huge role in our failures to reach our goals. But that should not be an excuse, I should have done more to keep this team near the top and unfortunately I failed. We will be better prepared this upcoming year where we expect to be a top 2 team not only in the East but the entire league." Celtics GM OneNole declared

"We have unfortunately struck out on some of our targets the past couple of years and have had to find fits that have fallen through the cracks or make sound trades to improve our roster. We dont deny that we feel strongly that a couple players obviously chose the wrong destination when factoring in their teams success with ours but we hope the new season can bring new results. We have a great team here in Boston, the best fans, and we hope to be an extremely desirable destination."
