As you all know, we have a few available teams. This season we have run a test, where Tim was the caretaker GM of the Philadelphia 76ers. I do think it has improved the league, as the 76ers, despite their record, are more balanced and in better shape than they were. So, with that in mind, all GMless teams will have caretaker GM's for next season. Caretaker GM's will have full power over the team, so they can draft, sign free agents, make trades, whatever. There will be some requirements, though:
1. The caretaker GM has to be in a different conference from the team he takes care of (as with the Blazers / Sixers case). 2. A GM cannot take care of more than one team. 3. It is a temporary role, which means if a new GM joins the league, he can choose whatever team he wants (among those with caretakers). 4. Trades cannot be made with each other (in the current situation, Blazers and Sixers cannot be part of the same trade). 5. Owning DDS is required to be a caretaker GM. One of the reasons for this is to lower the work I do with all open teams.
A list of open teams will be posted in a few days after I review who is active and who is not. Then we will start the process of distributing teams. However, before doing that, I would like everyone to vote in the poll: should we have anonymous caretakers (as we do with Player Agents) or not (as the current Blazers / Sixers situation)?

I think it's best if we make the identities public. It's a pretty touchy thing for some people, having GMs running multiple teams, and I think knowing who is running the teams puts people more at ease with it. I even went as far as making my reasoning and planning more public than I would with my own team, just so it's clear that I'm running them on behalf of the league until another GM takes them.

I'm truly indifferent on the matter. But I opted for yes just to lessen the burden on the Commish. I can see how much extra work it is for him....assisting in so many DDS less owners.
I think another rule for caretaker teams is they cannot trade any FUTURE picks away. They can make deals in the current off-season with picks, and retrieve extra picks, but not mortgage future picks...as I think new possible GMs would shy away from such available teams...especially that we might be getting into the years of players where more interest is drawn from new guys.
two cents

Yes I agree I would like to know who the caretaker gms are just so it is public and avoids the temptation of dodgey trades.
But I do think it has worked well for Philly

I think its a good thing for the league. It was nice knowing Tim controlled the 76ers this year, he did a great job and i dont think anyone was bothered by Tim running them.

I'm easy either way. Would assume teams would only be given to trusted GMs so doesn't matter whether we know or not. If the majority wants it, then yeah, no problems.

We have a great group of GMs, so I don't think there would be a problem either way, but I voted for public just for transparency.

When will this take effect? Would like to talk trade with some of these teams.
