In order to sign their drafted players, the following teams must get under the Hard Cap (either through renouncements or trades) before the start of Free Agency:

Just to clarify, this was related to players drafted in the first round, who are the ones signed right after the draft. Second round picks are signed at the end of Free Agency, so teams have until then to get below the Hard Cap if they want to sign their rookies selected in the second round.

Another clarification. This applies only to teams that finished the season over the Hard Cap. Teams that finished the season under the Hard Cap but cap holds put them over are not affected. We have always done it the same way. One or two seasons ago, can't remember exactly, the Chicago Bulls could not sign their first round rookie because of this.
