Installation keeps freezing with 6 seconds remaining. Has anyone done a successful install on 10?

Mine is working fine one 10. I remember the freezing issue from 8 and there's a simple way around it but I can't remember what it is.

Wow, I finally got this to work after a million attempts over the last year or two. I don't know what exactly what did it, but here is what I did. I clicked on properties for the Install file and went to the Compatibility tab. I set it to Windows 98 for compatibility, and run as administrator.
I thought I had done that before, but maybe I wasn't trying 98. It worked!

Yeah, remember that freeze thing from Windows 8.
Try Aeons method else I'll check tonight what compatibility flags I've set.

Tried that but it still freezes. I'll mess around a little more with those compatibility settings.

Mine always did too, Ranger. I tried it dozens of times. Not sure why it was different this time. I think I had tried XP in the past, not sure if I tried 98, so I thought maybe that was it. But could have been some other change in my system, I haven't tried it in months.

Run the installer as admin?

SUCCESS!!
After trying every combination under the sun to no avail, I just gave it one last go after a computer restart and it worked. Make sure to install into the C: drive directly rather than into the Program Files folder. The settings that worked were Windows XP (Service Pack 2) compatibility and Run As Administrator. I also right clicked and ran as administrator when I did the install.

Hmm, I wonder if there was actually a change in a Windows 10 update that finally made this happen. Great to hear, Ranger.

Experiment with different compatibility settings and restarting. Should get it to work eventually.

I'm using Linux, so what I had to do to run the game was to install a virtual machine and then run Windows on it. So you can try with an older version of Windows.

Only has to be run as administrator really. I have no compatibility settings selected other than run as administrator and haven't had issues.
Mine is installed directly onto C: so that might be key also.

I'm now having this issue. I had to upgrade to Windows 10 in my VirtualBox for various reasons. All DDS games install and work perfectly but DDSPB1. I could install without issues, but then I cannot run the program. I have tried as Admin and also setting the compatibility mode, but not working yet.

It's a fickle beast.
Sometimes it works, sometimes you need to play around with it. Seems no exact fix works for everyone.

Yeah, I feel like I did the exact same thing dozens of times to no avail and then one day it just worked. No reason that I could understand.
