Intermin GM for Indiana has a gameplan, with only two players under contract, a second round pick that will be signed, and two unrenounced players they intend to bring back. "Of course, we will convey to Hakeem's agent that we will compensate him as one of the premiere big men in the game. We hope they know that we will ask them to defer the signing, so that we can negotiate with UFAs that will get the team possibly back in the running to capture the East crown back from Boston and Chicago, and make a run at the title again" Rumors have leaked out that with ~16m in cap space, they will try and bring back someone to Indiana, where he belongs: The question is will he come to a contender for low 8 figures?? It will be a question between more money, or a shot to play with three perennial all-stars (Green-Robinson-Olajuwon) to look for a crown. Mom's regular home cooking might also weigh in! "We have no comment on the recent swirl of rumors in Indiana, but we will be aggressive in the off-season to put together a championship-caliber squad!" ljw IND InterimGM

That would be a good story ... but I'm sure the Sonics will try to get him back.

Bird is loyal so I think the sonics keep him. But worth a shot it is Indiana after all!

I like the pitch but agree with Cleasby. But they have to try, you never know, SEattle might not want to pay big dollars over a long term to a very old player.

Pacers Management has sent a formal offer letter to the local legend, asking him to come home for three years. While he likes his current team and management, we feel he doesn't enjoy the 'grunge movement', nor the coffee craze, that is brewing in Seattle. "People keep asking me to invest my money in this coffee shop chain.....ridiculous! This will never last!", stated Bird in a interview. "Plus, these so called bands, like Nirvana...simply screaming into a microphone! What is that???" Larry need to come back to his grass roots......settle down...start a family....enjoy banjo music, drink milk right from the dairy.....and play alongside the Twin Towers for more rings! In other Pacer news, word has it a giant offer to Hakeem is entered, as well as an offer to other teammate Haywoode Workman, plus FIVE OTHER contract offers to savvy veterans to fill a roster out that can compete now for the trophy!ljw Indy Interim!

No better looking 'femalia' on the planet then in good ol' Indy!!!

As the local newspaper would suggest, the Pacers organization has lost in the bid for a home state hero. They did not sit and pout, as they had several irons in the fire, and landed a young talent from Croatia that played for the Nets. He should be a very sound piece to the Pacers starting lineup for the next few years: Pacer fans were shocked: "I BLEW $75 ON THIS JERSEY, AND NOW WHAT?!?!"Pacer Management is asking the fans to simply do one thing after the bad news: ljw Indy Int

My biggest concern for them is Cheeks. He's a locker room cancer.

My biggest concern for them is Cheeks. He's a locker room cancer. Pacers have a few of those now...in addition to Cheeks. MRR and Terry Tyler are terrible personality too. ljw Indy Int

Is it possible to be a good team with a bunch of jerks on the list? I think my whole team is made up of them and Elliot, Rasmussen and Brad Davis aren't exactly charming blokes either.

I think we were still pretty solid even with Cheeks so don't think there is an issue. The issue come at free agency. If a star player was upset, they're a lot more likely to leave.

All the pre-season monikers like SwatCity, SwipeCity, SlamCity.......now get the one coveted moniker: 1992 GAH Champions!!
As an interim GM, the re-tooling of the franchise around the three perennial veteran all-stars of Robinson, Olajuwon, and Green was the focus.
Now, the 'dream situation' of bringing home the Indiana legend was a long battle that was lost in off season free agency.
However, in hindsight, that loss might truly have been the biggest gain for the team.
The cap space to resign Olajuwon and Workman was stowed away, but the amount of money we would've paid for Bird, in turn got us: Toni Kukoc Roy Hinson Terry Tyler Michael Ray Richardson T.R. Dunn
We could offer more then league minimum, and many of these vets desired to come and find a potential winning team.....so a little over minimum was accepted.
EVERY PLAYER ABOVE WAS CRITICAL TO THE SUCCESS OF THIS TEAM!! Especially when Robinson went down, Roy Hinson was the key to going 42-12 in games Robinson was out with injury.
Then in the playoffs the veterans guards of Dunn, Richardson, Cheeks, and Birdsong all contributed in a constant rotation in which they needed to keep the likes of Reggie Lewis, Clyde Drexler, Michael Jordan, Walter Davis, and BJ Armstrong at bay. They struggled at times, but did well enough to win. And dare I say it, whenever Olajuwon or Robinson got into foul trouble, Hinson came in and we essentially didn't miss a beat on the inside advantage against our opponents.
We got many breaks as well with Jordan hobbled, Rivers hobbled, Bowie hobbled(and a Celtics cpu squad).
Pacers join the Nuggets as three time champs, and continue the East run of championships.......Bulls, Pacers, and Celtics account for 8 of the last 9 titles.
The team is setup with the core (albeit even older) set to come back and defend...sans Rickey Green. Everyone critical was signed for two years to align with the next time the Admirals contract comes up. (With game run FA, who knows what will happen)
Glad to see the long time vets gaining their first ring: Rickey Green Terry Tyler Michael Ray Richardson
Green could be offered to come back, although PG Workman is ready to assume starter role. Other min sal players are FAs: Chuck Person Randy Breuer Maurice Cheeks Danny Ferry Otis Birdsong
Hopefully this team might attract another new GM to join in........enticing for someone to come in on top???

Nice job as interim GM. You inherited the towers but the towers hadn't been getting it done on their own for the previous two seasons and you put together a great supporting cast for them.
The days where the West was dominant from top to bottom are long gone.

I must confess I have been surprised by Hinson's play. He's been fundamental to the team's success.

Nice work putting together pieces to complement those stars. We all know it's not so easy to go all the way, whether you have two hall of famers or not.
