With the second overall pick in the 1994 GAH draft, the Dallas Mavericks select forward Latrell Sprewell from Alabama.
The Mavericks have only one player under contract for next season: Ervin Johnson. Holding the second overall pick in this draft represented a chance for the franchise to start climbing out of the bottom of the league. Sprewell is that chance for the Mavs. An aggressive scorer who will not surrender, can score inside and outside, giving the Mavs a versatile wing player to build upon. Scouts also point at his potential to become a lockdown defender if he applies himself on that end of the court. Sprewell, though, comes in with a reputation of being difficult to deal with. Maybe being the cornerstone of a franchise changes his mentality.
