Dear all,
First of all ... Happy New Year!
We have some announcements to make, as there are changes coming in the future. We have been using DDSPB1 since we started back in the 1976-77 season, which means this will be our 20th season. As the years have gone by, we have lost many GM's and have had trouble finding new ones who would last. The fact we are still using the first engine (strictly speaking the second one if we consider TPB as its predecessor) is probably the most important reason why we are where we are. While I still believe PB1 has the best engine of the whole series, and after discussing this with Tim, we have decided that it may be best to move to a new engine. Still, call me sentimental / romantic / nostalgic if you want, but given this upcoming 1995-96 season will be our 20th season as a league, I think it fits to use PB1 for one last time. That means we will move to the new engine for the 1996-97 season.
As for the new engine, with a 90 % probability it will be the latest version of the game, DDSPB2018, as that will make a recruiting process easier. Still, there is one thing that concerns me with the new engine, which has to do with shooting preferences. I have to test it thoroughly, to see if we need to implement some restrictions regarding shooting preferences.
As for resuming the 1995 offseason, if everything goes as expected, this is the schedule:
Jan. 5: release of the Free Agency file and all the required information for those without the game.
Jan. 10: start of Free Agency.
Feb. 6: start of the 1995-96 season.
Apr. 15: start of the 1996 playoffs
May 20: end of the 1996 GAH Finals
Obviously, the length of the playoffs will depend on how many games each round extends, but this is to give you an idea that the switch to the new engine will take place in late May or early June.
Another important thing is that owning the game will not be a requirement, so you don't have to purchase the new version. But using DDSPB2018 will help us to fill the vacant teams.
Please use this thread for any question you may have.
