The 1995 Finals kick off..with two teams looking to hoist their first GAH title. Lakers have been runner-up four times, while Hawks make their first trip.
Game one would be in Los Angeles.
1st Quarter: Both teams cam out a little flat, but Hawks controlled the boards and turnovers...and were in the penalty at alway point of period, while they were yet to commit a foul. Ending the quarter, Hawks were up 30-17. Kendall Gill took nine shots in the 1st.
Quarter running totals:
ATL - LA

TOs 3 6
2nd Quarter: Lakers stayed cold, scoring one point in first 4 1/2 minutes of Q. Lead reached 20pts until Lakers whittled back to 11 by half, 50-39. Dean Garrett was hot player 10pts 7rebs. Lakers cold from 3pt land, only 2/10.

3rd Quarter: Lakers made a couple runs, closing the gap to seven points, but then turned it over for fast break points to trail again by 15. They made second run again to close to nine, but again sloppy play allowed Hawks to stretch lead to 20 again by end of quarter.

FG% 53 47
Rebs 34(10) 20(3)

4th Quarter: No real run in the fourth, as the lead stayed around 20 all the way until four minutes left. Lakers made a tiny run but then had to foul and it was over without much of a whimper.
Quarter running totals:
ATL - LA
Pts 102 86
FG% 53 50
Rebs 44(16) 28(6)
TOs 20 20
Final Comments: It was easy to see where Lakers failed.....when Hawks turned it over, they still made stops.....when Lakers turned it over, Hawks capitalized. 34-12 in fast break points favoring Atlanta. Also, Hawks owned the glass...not allowing second shots...while getting many second looks themselves. LA will need to regroup and get the next game, especially given Atlanta was the best Home team this season. Dean Garrett outplayed Sikma and Ruland combined. Sikma's injury is really hurting his performance.
Injuries:
Atlanta Hawks

Los Angeles Lakers

N. McMillan - a sprained finger (10 d)
J. Sikma - a bruised sternum (5 d)
