I'll just be over here sitting on my cap holds while my FAs pretend they are worth double their actual value and everyone useful signs somewhere else.

I'll just be over here sitting on my cap holds while my FAs pretend they are worth double their actual value and everyone useful signs somewhere else. Wish I had the patience to roll the dice Tim, and not have my fav get grabbed. Started offering Ralph 3yrs $10m...which was too much...so uber-Overpaid for him...but some teams with cap space and no center I thought might swoop in with a 1 yr deal. So he should now be a Spur for his entire career....which was my goal. And, 3yrs @15 I won't have to deal with ~$25m+ cap space to protect him his final yrs. Already at 14 players IF we keep our second round pick........will sit until the latter rounds to see what min contracts make sense..if any. Still not happy with PG stability...but it was keep Ralph or dive at big named PGs...and anyone who has been in this league a long time knows what my choice would be. Great grab for Pistons and Mookie ....lets Penny play '2' which wen he develops completely should be a stud. Bad for Nets...but they are stuck with tough contracts still to handle. ljw SAS

I figure there were 3 strategies I could take this off-season: - re-sign everyone and try again. Unlikely we get over the hump with everyone a year older, so just delaying the rebuild for a year. - let everyone go and offer some good contracts for new stars to rebuild around - try to keep the key FAs and sign one new big money player. Have gone with this option but due to the unrealistic early demands, it's unlikely to succeed.

Goddamn. I give up. Mookie had 0 interest in us, unhappy becaues of losing, and I don't know if he just chose another offer or just rejected our offer again and we didn't get another one in on this sim. I've had to reoffer every sim, but I can't get to the DDS computer every day. I offered Mookie a max salary starting day one.
But that's basically three stars the Nets have lost, 2 signing elsewehre in free agency, and I traded Dikembe to avoid it happening again. It seems the only thing I can do to get out of this hole is trade all my picks and unhappy players for established players, and enough of them to instantly constitute a winning team. Despite a number of high picks we can't get anywhere because they leave before we get traction.

It sucks to lose free agents, but you may want to keep your picks at least until the draft class for next year is released. It is a really strong class, probably the strongest we have had since the 1989 class.

Yeah, I'm guessing we'll have yet another top pick, so I'll wait and maybe trade down for players or multiple picks of lesser value. We had much more success in New Jersey back when we had no stars, and just had a team of undervalued guys who worked well together. I may just go with that approach in the future--less worry if you lose someone. And who knows how the new engine will handle things differently.
