The Chicago Bulls were just one game away of winning their second ever GAH title. With a 3-0 lead and a 15-1 record during the playoffs, many were expecting a sweep in the Finals. Still, the Golden State Warriors needed to show their fans the team was able to compete at the highest level.
The game started with the home team making a statement: 28-10 during the first 12 minutes. The home crowd was excited and happy to finally see the Warriors playing at their best. The second quarter was pretty levelled, with the Bulls cutting the lead to 16 points. Things were looking good for the Warriors, but the Bulls had a great third quarter, and Golden State saw his lead reduced to 8 points. In the end, the Warriors were able to keep the Bulls at bay, and avoided the sweep with 90-83 win.
Defending MVP, Patrick Ewing, led the Warriors with 30 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 steals and 1 assist. Reserve guard Kevin McKenna kept his good play during the finals, scoring 22 points and adding 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. The only other player to score in double figures for the Warriors was Larry Nance, who had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 assists. However, not all were good news for the Warriors, as Ewing ended up the game with a sprained wrist.
The Bulls were led in scoring by Norm Nixon, who had 17 points, 8 assists and 4 rebounds. The point guard finished the game with a sore hip. Veteran center Tree Rollins was the team's best player with 14 points, 15 rebounds and 2 blocks. Michael Jordan had one of his quietest game of the season, scoring 15 points. Forward Hot Rod Williams added 15 points.
Game five will take place tomorrow at the Oakland Alameda County. Can the Warriors win back-to-back games to make this an interesting series? Which injury will have a bigger effect in the outcome, Ewing's sprained wrist or Nixon's sore hip?
