After getting their first win in the series 24 hours earlier, the Golden State Warriors were hoping to extend the Finals for another game. Regardless of the outcome, this was going to be the last game of the season at Oakland, as the series would move back to Chicago for the final two games if needed. Injuries could play a big part in the game, though, with Patrick Ewing and Norm Nixon playing hurt. The Bulls were 15-2 so far in the postseason, while the Warriors were 14-9.
It was a high intensity game, with 19 lead changes. The Bulls were up in the scoreboard by one point at the end of the first quarter, but the Warriors were able to tie the game heading to the locker room for the halftime break. It was like a new game with 24 minutes remaining. The home team won the third quarter by four points, in what was being a close contest since the tip-off, and could increase its lead slightly in the fourth quarter for a 93-87 win.
Ewing was a non-factor on the ofensive end, with just 5 points in 36 minutes, but he still had 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 block. It was reserve big man Horace Grant who led the Warriors in scoring with 19 points, adding also 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block. And finally this was the game were Dana Barros appeared, scoring 17 points and hitting 3 of 4 from three-point range. Three starters scored in double digits for Golden State: Larry Nance (13), Detlef Schrempf (13) and Lester Conner (12).
After an average game four, Michael Jordan bounced back with 25 points, 4 steals, 3 assists and 1 rebound, despite shooting 8 of 20 from the field. Tree Rollins had 18 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 assist and 1 steal, while Nixon contributed with 15 points, 8 assists, 1 rebound and 1 steal. Only Hot Rod Williams scored in double digits besides the Big Three, with 10 points.
The 1991 GAH Finals move now back to Chicago. Will the Bulls close it out at home or will the Warriors be able to force a seventh game? Nixon being healthy again could be a key factor, as Ewing is still dealing with a sprained wrist.
